With more and more of us becoming frequent flyers, Airlines have a hard job to make us pay attention to safety instructions.

Infographic style videos just aren’t able to hold our attention anymore. So the new Flight Safety Video genre was born. These Hollywood scale films are all about entertainment and hence, engagement. The creative challenge is how to make the most epic film but still have to comply with all safety regulations on passenger instructions. Not an easy mix but we’ve rounded up our top 10.

New Zealand - The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made (2014)

Like the title says, can you get any more epic than being transported to Middle Earth, complete with star appearances from Elijah Wood and Sir Peter Jackson? In this video safety guidance is presented Hobbit style, but Air New Zealand aren’t ones to take themselves too seriously so we get a good dosage of humour in the process.

Air New Zealand- Men in Black Safety Defenders (2015)

Another one by Air New Zealand and this time they’ve roped in the rugby team to take part. Based on the Men in Black films and with a re-worked theme tune this is a thoroughly entertaining watch.

Air New Zealand - Safety in Hollywood (2016)

OK it’s Air New Zealand, again. These guys keep releasing videos year after year, and we’ve really been selective here by just using 3. This time, the brilliant Rhys Darby and Anna Faris star in this medley of film genre backdrops for safety demonstrations. It’s unapologetically silly and keeps us glued to our screens.

Trip: The Virgin Atlantic Safety Film (2014)

A gorgeous animated video that plays on the fact that we get bored by safety demos. So here’s they’ve merged the hostess’s voice into a day dream adventure which like the previous example takes us through movie genres.

The Song - Virgin America (2013)

An all singing and dancing safety video, literally. Wow, Americans know how to do Pop culture! They nail it here with an original track that delivers all the messaging and then throw in some amazing choreography to boot. We’re definitely watching and bopping along.

British Airways & Comic Relief Director’s Cut (2017)

A winning combination of funny man Asim Chaudhry and some top British celebrities set up as an audition for the safety video with Chabuddy G as the director. While the concept is not the most original, it’s very well executed and of course Rowan Atkinson steals the show.

Qantas Safety Video (2016)

In this video we travel through Australia and are greeted by friendly faces who deliver the messaging. What a lovely way to showcase the destination you are flying to or from.  An inspiring choice.

Turkish Airlines Safety Video with Zach King (2016)

In flight magic with Zach King keep you engaged all the way through the safety instructions. We’re under no illusion that we can guess how he did that. Good tricks
